This may not be the greatest show I've ever seen, but it was fun and pretty cool at the time...

David Bowie, on the Serious Moonlight tour, 1983. I went with a couple of friends to Hershey Stadium to see this. We were all fans to some degree--I had a few albums, like Diamond Dogs and Changes and the newest one, too.

We made it from the cheap seats down to about 50 feet from the stage right on the field during the opening act (Levi & the Rockats), and had a great view of the whole show.

Bowie did all of hits, and the best material from the current album, and yeah! it was a pretty exciting time.

The first one that always comes to mind when this question comes up is when I saw The Who in Philly sometime in the 80s.

Got off the bus early & while standing outside the stadium waiting to go in, a large young-ish guy walked briskly past the group of us and muttered "...mushrooms, mushrooms mushrooms..."
you don't have to imagine the rest.

Y'know, the best show I've seen recently had to be the Mekons here in Pittsburgh on Sept 30 this year.

The show was in the New Hazlett Theater on the North Side; it had been scheduled for the Warhol Museum's performance space, but that was deemed to be too small (seats about 125), and so was relocated. The Hazlett's about double the seating, and is a black box theater space; that is, there's no stage, just an open space that can be adapted for any need.

The opener was a guy named Danbert Nobacon, who'd been in Chumbawamba. He performed solo acoustic. Hard driving, political and passionate. He was joined for a few songs by Jon Langford (Mekons guitarist, vocalist, etc). A powerful opening.

I went in not knowing a whole lot about the Mekons, but I came out a fan. A gang of 8 unruly rowdies, they played some incredible songs from throughout their 30 year career. Mostly acoustic, but Langford deployed the electric now and then.

The best thing I can tell you is, check out the Mekons! Their new album, Natural, is excellent. They veer from raw punk to country, folk, a touch of reggae and who knows what else...this is the first show I've been to in a long time where I"ve come out saying, "I've gotta join a band!"

As Jon Langford remarked at one point, "We're the only band that has been together for the whole 30 years of punk, and that simultaneously makes us the best and worst punk band ever."

Punk or no, they were great.
