|
|
I just read about an upcoming 9 disc (!) box set by the 13th Floor Elevators. It's due to be released in September on the UK Charly label.
Contents include: all of the studio albums, an unreleased first album (does anyone know the story behind this?), unissued live material, alternative stereo mixes and outtakes. Geez!
Seems that along with the period material (1965-1968), there will be material from a 1973 reunion and a solo album (also unreleased) by Stacy Sutherland!
Good Lord! After all of these years of so-so reissues on a bunch of labels, who knew there was this much unheard Elevator music!

That's terrible! Say it ain't so, Joe!
That is an amazing amount of music by the Elevators, though. Is this going to be released by a US label, or will it be strictly an import? _________________ What a shame Mary Jane caught a pain at the party! |

Y'know, I didn't want to do that, but it was kind of irresistible. I've always had a weakness for puns and jokey wordplay, usually bad. Jim could confirm that... _________________ One chord is fine. Two chords are pushing it. Three chords and you're into jazz. |

I'd sooner spend my money on an original vinyl pressing of their first LP (mono copy of course) as the CD reissues seem to be of inferior quality 2nd or 3rd generation tapes!
And if there were an album worth of material cut prior to their first LP, would you really think it's worth a listen? I'm just sayin'.
Get a copy of The Psychedelic Sounds Of... & Easter Everywhere and you'll have all you need. The Charley CDs start at around 9 bux.
If yer still hungry for more decent Texas psych from that period, check out the one-and-only album by The Golden Dawn - Power Plant.

Seemed like someone should update this poast now that the long-awaited Elevators Box has been issued. Turns up on their original label, International Artists (who knew?). All the info you could need is here -

I did end up receiving the Sundazed 180gram reissue of the Psychedelic Sounds of... in glorious mono for Xmas (god bless my gal Chesty). It is truly a beautiful thing on many levels!
