Not exactly a "tribute" but along with the Chipmunk-A-Go-Go album, my proof of evil in the world...

A long time favorite is one record that tells you up front that it's a tribute: Tribute to Buddy Holly, by Mike Berry. An excellent number, written and produced by Joe Meek. _________________ One chord is fine. Two chords are pushing it. Three chords and you're into jazz. |

Robyn Hitchcock did a couple of great live tribute shows in the last year or so.
There was one devoted to Syd Barrett, with Piper played in its entirety, with some solo Barrett songs to round things out, and the other that was the whole of Sgt Pepper, along with some single cuts, and odds and ends. Both shows are a little sloppy in spots, but still great fun.
I found them at the Internet Archive site. There's a huge selection of live shows available for download there. Mostly 90's onward, but there's a section devoted to the Grateful Dead, too.
Check out this great resource: http://www.archive.org/index.php

Ye Gads, Joe! You weren't kidding about the huge Dead selection--over 2800 shows!
Where to start, I wonder? _________________ What a shame Mary Jane caught a pain at the party! |

The Aragon Ballroom show from 1938!
Sorry. I couldn't help myself.
Peace!
