You're the Lucky Caller!Here's a weird one:
Have you ever won something on a radio call-in? Was it cool? Was it goofy?
For some reason, I was thinking about this one weekend when I was about 12 years old or so. A local AM station, WZIX, was doing an All Beatles Weekend, playing all of their songs back to back for the whole weekend.
Throughout, they would announce album give aways if you were caller number whatever. I tried to get through every time they did this. I really wanted to win a copy of Hard Day's Night for some reason; it seems like they had several copies of this one, and I had to win one!
Well, in the end I didn't win a copy of Hard Day's Night. But I did manage to get through for a copy of George's (then) new album, George Harrison. It had the song Blow Away on it, and at the time I dug that song. So that was pretty cool.
In the end, my dad had to take to the station to pick up my prize. I remember going downtown to the station offices in the former Colonial Hotel, and him taking me upstairs to the office where one of the staff shook my hand, congratulated me and handed over the record.
That's my big win story. How about yours?

Indeed. The local/regional AM station in our town was/is WCPA. I have vivid memories of my mom dropping everything in the kitchen the moment a call-in contest was announced... her trick was to have the entire phone number already dialed in EXCEPT for the last number...and then right when the DJ announced the contest - BAMMO! you spin that last number round the dial AND...well, of course, this only makes you the winner in those rare occaisions when they are looking for "caller number one"!
Anyroad, I will never forget the time my mom won a copy of The Who - The Kids Are Alright lp. I was probably 8 years old. My brother and I were stunned by the whole thing... still are actually.
