THE MEKONS!The Mekons are definitely outside of the Lost Discs scene, but they are certainly an overlooked band. They've been putting out some really exciting records for 30 years now, and have never troubled the mainstream. Which is a real shame. I've heard some stray songs over the years, but, wow. Just wow.For whatever reason they played in Pittsburgh as part of their 30th anniversary tour. It was a mostly acoustic show, with just a bass and some splashes of electric guitar. A lot of acoustic guitar, fiddle, accordion, ukes, percussion and what may have been a saz... Look, let me put it to you this way. Even if you've never heard of the Mekons, you'll have a good time and hear some great music. If they're playing anywhere near you, GO! The show I went to (9/30) ranks as one of the best shows I've ever seen. It's March, and I'm still diggin' the Mekons. I've picked up a bunch of their albums, and still say: check this band out!
