Suggested Albums for October/November Indian Summer, etc...Got to thinking about Joe's quick question that he tossed off under his post: "What Are You Spinning?" regarding suggestions for Indian Summer listening.
Hand's down THE best album for mid-late october is "Easter Everywhere" by The 13th Floor Elevators!
Given the title, it may seem a bit oxymoronic to listen intently to this album during the peak of autumn. Perhaps there is something simultaneously, eerily attractive & repulsive about celebrating the lysergic re-birth of the mind & body during the traditional harvest season - with the bittersweetness of death all around. But there is certainly something in ths music; its the mood, the overall aesthetic of the album, that works really well while sitting in a tree laden park, or better yet, a cemetary, during an October day.
Trust me on this, mix yourself a stiff drink, or smoke 'em if you got 'em, or take it stone sober & go outside somewhere this October, put on the headphones & dig this album thru... more than once if possible. You'll soon see what I'm talking about.
If anyone does this & achieves the ineffible experience of this combination of music, colors, sights, smells, moods & emotions, I hope you will chime in here and attempt to describe the experience in your own words.
