Fresh - Fresh Today (1971)

I just got an inquiry from someone who googled us in regards to the song "Stoned In Saigon" by the band named Fresh. We played this song on our Halloweiner show in 2005. I only have two songs by this band, both in MP3 format, which I probably got from Usenet.

Do any of you sixties record fanatics have any pointers to this LP?

Thanks.

Fresh sounded really familiar, and after a little looking I remember why:

I've seen their first album, Fresh Out of Borstal, a couple of times over the years. Looked like it would be pretty gritty, judging from the cover, but from what I've read about this, it's fairly lightweight and kind of poppy. It was produced by Simon Napier-Bell (Yardbirds, John's Children) and has a cover of the JC song Desdemona (written by Marc Bolan).

I'll have to see if I can find this.

Chryste, I've never heard of these guys!
Look at Joe Stax, he has his reply (with a scan of the LP cover, no less) posted within a half-hour of Cosmik's query.
Joe, you are outta control - & I mean that in the best possible way!

I stopped at Jerry's Records yesterday to check out new arrivals and generally to nose around.

I came across both albums by Fresh! The first lp, Out of Borstal was even sealed! Turns out Stoned in Saigon is from their second release, Fresh Today. So was Desdemona (I got that bit wrong about these being on the Borstal record).

I haven't had a chance to spin either, but I'll post my "review". One thing worth mentioning is how little the actual band seems to matter in the credits... The largest print is reserved for Simon Napier-Bell, who "conceived, arranged and produced" everything.
