Fave Music Mags

Hey people, what music mags do you like? It can be current, or long out of business, pro or zine. I just want to know what you've grooved to.

Cashbox?

Creem?

Trouser Press?

Tiger Beat?

Shout it out!

I've always favoured the UK music rags, like Mojo or Uncut. Mojo has the edge, though, for focusing on more of the music I like, and not splitting its coverage between music and film.

Both usually have fine cover cds.

Oh yeah, Mojo's a must. It's easily the best music mag on the stands now. I don't know what it is about UK publishers, but for the last ten or so years, they've consistently produced superior magazines across the board. At least for the subjects I follow.

However, I don't really get into Uncut.

Some of the other mags I follow are No Depression, the Big Takeover and Ugly Things.

OOoops, meant to post in here. "Monitoring Times" occasionally "QST", Otaku USA and Newtype - anime magazines...

The internet has completely killed off my consumption of magazines in general. I guess Bob Guccione's nightmares came true! Laughing
Music news, porn, stock quotes, recipes, humour, etc. etc. It's all on the web.

Peace!

Monitoring Times, Mojo, Sing Out.
Used to get Beatology but I dunno if they are still running.
They had a short run on the news stands around New Haven back in the late 90s.
Also the occaisional fanzine like Ugly Things or Misty Lane http://www.mistylanemusic.com/

I remember seeing Beatleology at Borders many years ago. Nicely done, but it seems to me that it was a little too specialized for the casual reader. It reminds me that I miss the Beatles Book Monthly.

Oh, for anyone interested in the new psych scene, the magazine Ptolemeic Terrascope is quite fascinating. I don't always get into the artists they cover, but it is good that someone keeps the freak flag flying.

I just picked up this year's issue of Ugly Things.  It's a drag that it only comes out once a year, but it never feels like they're skimping on the content...this issue is 200+ pages, and has articles on the MC5, the Sons of Adam, the Pop Rivets and (of course) the Pretty Things!  And, there are loads of other pieces, and close to 100 pages of reviews!  Damn!

Oh, and looking at the editorial, I see that they're going to be coming out twice a year from now on.  YEAH!

I also picked up another UK mag called Shindig!  It's a bimonthly color glossy with excellent interviews, articles and reviews of the garage and psych scenes.  The current (March/April) issue has a cover story on the Charlatans and the early San Fran scene, as well as features on the GTO's, Moby Grape and Gonn.  Looks like I'll be adding this one to my reading list!
