Do the Funky Gibbon!

What are some of your favorite novelty records?

I recently re-discovered a cache of Ray Stevens singles that had been hidden in my attic. Remarkably, they were (physically) unwarped, and decided to give them a listen.

Well, the Streak is still somewhat embarassing, but I can remember listening to this to the point of having my parents threaten to take it away. And after they gave to me in the first place.

But of the lot, my favorite is the Yakety Yak/Along Came Jones single on the Monument label. Stevens carries it all off with a zealous performance and what I'm guessing is canned laughter to punctuate the silliness.

Okay don't get me started. In my collection of 45s I have an entire section dedicated to "novelty" records. The first two that come to mind are related to martians - The Martian Band by The Wild Tones and The Martian Hop by The Randells. Most of the novelty records I have fall into the category of being so bad that they are somehow interesting.
I'll have to list a few more in another post when I have a little more time.
Dig.

Yeah, here's another shout of; "Don't get me started", coming from the foyer. Wink
The "Bruce Springstone" thing. Rockin' Richie Ray, underground obscene country records...... If it's wierd or crappy, I've got it stashed away, somewhere.

Peace!
