10-4-08 show_
The long awaited Dylan Spectacular.......with these particular highlights: "Tell Us Dee-Laaan"(7:01), the lounge lizard piano bar sound of "Blowin In The Wind"(15:10), high pitched harmonica(35:57), "The Mighty Quinn" at times sounding strangely like a hip Bill Clinton(40:25) , Big Brass Bed Bit by the Doctor (42:11), and BEST OF SHOW, Gates Of Eden(48:34).
P.S. In the after hours show Doc stumped a seemingly exasperated Joe with a painfully difficult trivia question: "What was the first note played in concert by Dylan after he changed to electric guitar ?". Doc intends on reviewing the Newport Folk Festival DVD to reveal the answer to this esoterically stimulating question. Any listener e-mailing the answer to the show before the revelation could well qualify for an honorary Lost Discs Radio Show refrigerator magnet I would think.

It was indeed spectacular. Many surprises and unfamiliar cover versions.
Cheers to Doc for his interpretation. I'd like a sequel show soon, with Doc doing a full rendition as the opening number!

There must have been a point in the mid 60's when Dylan covers were at their peak. Does anyone have an idea of how many cover versions there were of Dylan songs during the decade? Has anyone compiled this anywhere?
How do the Beatles compare for number of covers? I'd think it would practically be a tie with Dylan, with every other songwriter a distant second.

Indeed, I have a vintage Lost Discs Radio 'fridge magnet ready to be mailed out to anyone who can name the song Dylan first played upon plugging in at Newport in '65. Hopefully Doc will be prepared with the answer by Saturday.
And as for Astrakhan's query, I will defer to Master Stax...
Oh, and btw, Stax has some really interesting info on that group who covered "Gates of Eden", The Myddle Class. He promises to come clean next show
