I got the new issue of Mojo (October) today, and there's some exciting news for Beatles fans...
The catalogue is finally being remastered!
| Quote: | Mojo has been invited to a playback of ten White Album tracks. The verdict is "Better even than we'd hoped."
Important information revealed includes; all the albums, including Yellow Submarine, Magical Mystery Tour and the Past Masters sets have been remastered, but not The Hollywood Bowl. Rubber Soul and Revolver will have three different mixes available, mono, original stereo and the 1987 stereo rebalances. There will be no 5.1 mixes of any of the tracks.
Original recording equipment has been located and used for the project and the bass sound that the original cutting engineers reduced has been restored.
Expected release date is now off the record set as 2009, "Apple/EMI are not going to bodge the packaging for the sake of a bumper Christmas." |
And about time, too. After all, the fabs are the last of the major 60's groups to have their records remastered. Heck, some bands are already on their second or third remaster.
But yeh, I'm looking forward to this. The best sounding Beatles since vinyl, with some mono mixes to boot. Shame they won't be doing the Hollywood Bowl, though. That's a guilty pleasure of mine...
